HYPOCRITE

When Simon kissed me on New Year's Eve
You really blew your top.
One would think I'd killed your prizewinning cat,
Or smashed your priceless Ming pot.

It was all so innocent, and nothing more
Than a simple vodka 'high'.
Yet it seems I'd committed such a terrible sin,
That you said you wished I'd die.

You accused me of making a fool of you
In front of your cling-on friends.
And then you gabbled some gobbledygook
About my needing to tie up loose ends.

Oh how the hypocrite's memory is short,
Because I can still clearly recall
Stumbling on you in the gamekeeper's hut
With Anna at that Summer Ball.

You explained it away as a comforting hug
For a friend who'd just buried her dog.
But I have to say, that hardly explains
The comment you left on her blog.

And when she returned from her gap year away
Beneath sunny skies of Corfu,
The baby she was oh-so-keen to show off
Was the splitting image of you!

So before you presume to criticise me,
Try looking to your own broken rule.
I have been so many things to you,
But I'll never be your fool.

    1. Rose,
      Thank you so much.
This was indeed a telling off poem, only somewhat belated.
I seem to be digging out so many past memories recently. It's almost as if I'm going through some sort of self-therapy!!!

Think I made too many poor relationship choices in the past!
      Onwards and upwards (hopefully) :)

I think it should be restricted to children in the playground only!!

Wish I'd thought of that retort at the time :[

  5. Mmm....reads like the epitome of modern times, including the politics of contemporary relationships. Has a familiar ring with the hypocrisies of social niceties. Thanx 4 sharing...;-)

    1. Hi William,
      And thankx for reading!
Is it just me, or are most modern relationships a minefield of hypocrisy and pretence?
How I long for simple honesty and sharing!!

    2. It appears you crafted your own therapy through poem. I asked myself while reading your poem what person can cause you to write it. I don't know when the issue surfaced but whenever it did that bastard got a literary ass-kick. Cool rhythm with tension within every other line. Yes, I felt your disgust with this person. . . .

Your beautiful words granted this a beautiful post.

    3. Hi Ty-shaun,
It's really great to hear from you!
Yes, I do find solace in writing poetry. It is a good form of therapy.
This was written in response to an experience of quite a while ago that I clearly hadn't yet recovered from.
Thank you so much for your comment. I really appreciate it:)
