RIVERDANCE

The curse of white coats,
name badges and overshoes.
Shiny needle: sharp, spiteful bliss-killer.

Memory stolen: how I got here.
Why? When? With whom? Relevance fading
with anti psychotic blood-count rise.

Reflective mirror-like floor, an alternative world.
Compelled to dance there, see that other me
inverted; whirling, whirling, into ecstasy.

Instead: sectioned, strapped to bed. Nodding heads,
discussing that other time, recent, I saw
that world - from a high bridge over the Severn.

  1. Bonza imagery and it does sound like this poor fella is being used as a guines pig for untested psychotic drugs :-).

    1. Thank you Windsmoke.
I honestly believe drugs are used too readily these days. Maybe it's easier (or less expensive) than more in-depth therapies.
What is really needed is a permanent cure.
This was my attempt to make that point!

  2. Compellingly written. Every line and phrase of it, in fact. I can't say I enjoyed it, but it does what art - dare I say great art - should do: it wakes us from our sleep walking ways and confronts us with a reality that we'd rather ignore. Bravo! (I can't make up my mind whether I would rather know the back story or rather not.)

  3. Hi Dave,
Many thanks for reading and commenting on this rather controversial topic.
The subject of mental health issues interests me greatly, as I am at present studying it as a background course to metaphysics.
It is a facinating subject, and is incredibly complex.
I would like to help make a difference someday.

  6. Superbly psychedellic and sufficiently abstract to flavour your subject. Love the image and title!
