BENJI, circa 1990

Hey girls, let's rave tonight.
The spotlight's hitting Benji
and all that black leather.
Our inhibitions die tonight
in bottomless glasses
of white rum and ecstasy,
and a solid sphere of sound.

Is this your first time?
He'll space you out with his crazy beat
and blatant sexuality.
Oh Benji, we'll tear each other's eyes out
to win that coveted status:
to wear you like a second skin
and wake up on your pillow -
the ultimate claim to fame.

Hey girls, let's dive into his aura,
lose sight of parental boundaries
and just live for this moment
of  backstage hedonism...
but be sure not to dream of Benji
in delicate tints of rose,

cos tomorrow he's moving on...

  1. wow. sounds like he has some interesting nights...hahaha....
sometimes i have to wonder what his feelings are really
always moving and never really having a deeper connection....

    1. Think he probably did, Brian...smiles...
I agree...fun in the short term, but in the long term?
      I think not!
But, deep down, I'll bet even he eventually needed that deeper connection!!
      Many thanks :)

  2. Backstage hedonism...may be fun temporarily but certainly not fulfilling :)

    1. Definitely not...yet in that era of "Me first" it appeared to be the trend.
I observed it so many times all around me...but it always led to disaster!
      Many thanks, Keith :)

  3. Great capture of "Benji" the "guy who's always moving on"
Wonder about that kind of connection.
Bet he had some crazy times but not much substance to those connections.

    Wishing you a great weekend.

    Hugs

    1. Probably seemed like fun at the time...but at what cost!
I wonder where he is in life now?;)

      Many thanks, Margie.
Hope you're having a great weekend too!

  4. Simpler times mostly, in others imagination. The imagined freedom had to be a high. Love it…

    1. Yes...why does life always seem so much simpler in retrospect?
Observed freedom often exists only in the imagination of the observer...there is usually a heavy price to pay somewhere down the line!
      Many thanks, Anthony :)

  11. A chant to youth and freedom - with tints of grey experience and wise warning -, bravisssima Ygraine!
    My favourite lines...
    Our inhibitions die tonight
    in bottomless glasses
    of white rum and ecstasy

That Benji was dangerous, like most men, conquering and then departing in search of more to conquer...and leave again.
    A hug.

    1. You are so right there, Dulcina...most men are dangerous - especially when we are young and a little naive *smiles*
      They were fun times though!
