Of medieval crumbling stone,
your dreamy tower
rises out of reflections
of another world:
bewitching as an escapade
into childhood's exquisite fairyland.
Dancing on chilly winds
autumn's falling leaves,
yellow-gold: a testimony
to nature's endless cycle
of birth-death-rebirth,
enduring - like you.
Marbled afternoon sky.
Shadows lengthening inch-by-inch,
mirrored in leaded windows
out of which peer
the insubstantial faces of ghosts
of those who lived here once...and never left.

A wonderful tribute to castles and their histories, not just one.. Viewing old castles always takes me back in time to those ghosts before they turned…
ReplyDeleteMe too, Anthony...I so adore old castles...where you can actually feel yourself drawn into their past history.
DeleteMany thanks :)
Hope you are having a great weekend!
A fine poem. I was transported by it, not physically to Kent but emotionally to a focal point between worlds.
ReplyDeleteYes...think I found that magical place between worlds, too, when I was here!
DeleteThank you so much, Geo.:)
Beautiful Ygraine !

Every time you get me with such powerful emotions the wish to be in a castle that doesn't exist anymore except Centuries ago, I want to be there with whatever comes, I love old castles, I've seen fabulous fabulous remains in Spain but I know where you are, I would never leave, your writing comforts me with its possibilities that one day I will leave this world where I don't belong and enter yours...your writing sends me away far away from my dreaded reality and I bless you with all my heart....
ReplyDeleteOh Sweetie...your kind, kind words so move me...I am close to tears. Truly.
DeleteYou and I are so similar...I'm convinced that I don't really belong in this rather harsh reality either...perhaps one day we will meet up in a place where we both belong...oh I hope...

i would love to visit a castle...to walk the stone and hear its stories spoken to me...i was born well beyond my time...smiles.
ReplyDeleteI have always been fascinated by them and visit whenever I come across one.
DeleteThey are amazing...so steeped in history and some - like this one - harbour such powerful atmospheres...it is almost as if present and past merge within their ancient walls.
Think I must have lived in a bygone era, too...I've never felt quite at home in this time! ;)
Many thanks, Brian :)
