Restlessly I'm searching high and low -
oh why does Dozmary* draw me so?
Please, I beg you, Lady of the Lake
won't you tell me the reason for sanity's sake?
For I'm certain these things I should know.
So at pool's edge I wait straining my ears
throughout the night, overcoming fears.
I open my mind
but only to find
there's a brick wall inside.
Oh Merlyn of Camelot
is it really my lot
to thwart my own destiny tonight?
It appears not, for through Arthur's memory I'm shown
the Battle of Camlan that stole His throne.
And since then the wasteland has been upon us,
endlessly oozing spiritual pus.
Oh please Lady, finish the story tonight...
Well the visions come to me at dawn in a flash
of blood, gore and sword's clash.
Then Arthur's body being transported away
across the water to Avalon's bay,
where the Ninefold Sisterhood began healing his wounds.
And there in Otherworldly time He'll remain
until England's dire need calls Him home again.

I think it was the powerfully brooding atmosphere of this isolated and silent place that inspired me, Jan...when you're there, you can easily imagine the Lady rising up out of the water, sword held aloft! *smiles*
DeleteThank you so much for your kind words, dear friend :)
Big Hugs xxx
You take my breath away Ygraine and I marvel at that past and what your role could have been then, this is wonderful sososo

Wonderful poem.. The questions for the lady played out in such a wonderful way.
ReplyDeleteYes...I'd love to ask Her life's more urgent questions...oh if only such things were possible...
DeleteMany thanks, Anthony:)
Your poem uses symbols well. Surely a unifying magic can radiate across the the world from that lake again. Hope.
ReplyDeleteOh how I wish!
DeleteIf ever we needed Arthur's guardianship, that time is now...when the entire world appears to be losing it's sanity...
Many thanks, Geo:)
A wonderful poem.
ReplyDeleteYou are so kind. Thank you, Linda :)

ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
Ha...occasionally I do find myself breaking into rhyme (of sorts) ;)
DeleteOh you are so kind, CiL...thank you...:)
Have a great day.
oh i love arthurian legend...and sometimes we do thwart our own destinies....but i think that part of it is being willing to wait there by the lake until that wall comes down of its own accord.....very nice verse....
ReplyDeleteMe too, Brian...the Legends do appear to have a compelling sort of magic about them, don't they?
DeleteThank you so much :)
PS if you have time go to my blog, 3 three posts ago, I think, you're mentionned

ReplyDeleteYour blog is brilliant!
Have a great day:)

I totally agree - the legends are amazing...I have been utterly spellbound by them for as long as I can remember.
DeleteMy favourite DVD is "Excalibur" starring Nigel Terry as Arthur. It has all the main elements of the story and more than enough magic in the telling!
Whichever version you gave to your grandson, I do hope he enjoys it. I am sure he will.
Really great to hear from you...and many, many thanks:)
A big hug back, and I wish you a great week too xoxoxo
Wowness Ygraine..stunning and beautiful..totally my vibe and where my mind and heart loves to wander! I love the deeply poetic imagery you have conjured within me..soulful and inspiring.I Love it!! I envision a poet's-night. sitting up late in the dark with candles.. with a group of kindred-girlfriends reading magical poems..this is the one I would love to hear!!
ReplyDeleteHugs, you always inspire!
