DOOMSDAY

Fanatical minds fall apart by the hour:
on planning atrocities they're focusing their power
to bring to the world it's darkest hour.

Craters are blown in field and street
that obliterate cars and acres of wheat
'til just staying alive becomes major feat.

Skyscrapers fall like decks of cards,
leaving heaps of rubble and metal shards
that bury row upon row of back yards.

Oh when will this terrorism ever end,
this breaking of Commandments that cannot bend:
this bringing of innocent lives to an end?

So the Gods intervene bringing lightening down
in vengeance upon the perpetrators' town
until everything in sight is glowing red-brown.

Then instead of twelve the clock strikes thirteen,
trapping these warped Souls between
their barbaric acts and this nightmare scene.

Now upon their knees the misguided ask,
"What have we done to incur such wrath?"
and "To earn a reprieve, we'll complete any task!"

Well in booming voices the Gods reply,
"It's too late for that, now you all must die
for basing your lives upon the lie

that yours is the only opinion that matters,
while reducing the lives of others to tatters
and contaminating your Souls with their blood spatters.

So for all those you've maimed or killed in our Name
each one of you shall suffer the same,
but without your coveted martyrdom's fame.

Instead you'll be despised then rapidly forgotten,
your remains lying naked in the gutter until forgotten -
a dire warning to all who crave glory ill-gotten."

  4. Dear Ygraine
There is so much terrorism in the world and it truly does scare me!
I am in awe of your writing ability, this poem very aptly expresses the evil of terrorism ...bravo dear Ygraine.

    2. Thank you so much, Margie.
Felt I just had to approach this rather sensitive subject. There are so many of these horrors going on in our world these days...and I guess this was my attempt at verbal retribution!

Your poem was truly wonderful, Margie. It is always such a pleasure to visit your beautiful blog:)

Oh yes, thanks...my birthday was brilliant. We had a picnic in the garden of a beautiful local(ish) stately home, followed by a tour of the house itself. It was fascinating!

    1. Oh Linda, it really scares me - and makes me so angry. I know that is a negative emotion that I should try my hardest to avoid, but it is the feeling of helplessness when I see such things on TV. All those poor innocent people...I do try not to dwell on it...but sometimes I can't help it.
I will try to make my next post a lighter one. Promise! :)

Yes, thank you...I had a wonderful birthday.
Oh you are so kind, dear Linda...my heart-felt thanks.:)

  8. There's so much of truth in your words. The word is turning more scary and unsafe for the humans to live. Humans are narrowing the scopes of living our very own life on this beautiful mother earth.
Just read the newspapers every where. Headlines are just parallel to what you have mentioned here. This is totally sad Ygraine. I am moved by your poem, as you do always.

    1. I have to admit, Dumcho, it was fear that inspired me to write this poem. And my total inability to understand how any human being could even begin to contemplate inflicting such atrocities upon the innocent.
How can they live with themselves? I know I couldn't.

Thank you so much for understanding...and for your kind comment.
      Both are so appreciated.:)

Have a great Sunday, dear friend! :))

  20. Ah . . . how many eyes have been blinded my friend, this is why I can't help but to think, who's really in the dark, which isn't the darkness I'm talking about, as you may know.

    Dark blessings,

    Lon

    1. Definitely not your kind of darkness, Lon...far from it!
This darkness is that absence of love...that vortex in which true evil can thrive...and how it scares me...

      Blessings, my dear friend...always.

  21. __Great line of thought here , and with that, that vibrates under and through your verse. We need to face the -evil- and fear it, not, keeping to the contrary Seven, the lucky faith.

    >>>__We've not allowed the -evil number- in our time, and the closest digits on our clock's face is 6:59. But in one click of time, 6:59 becomes 7:00, the lucky contrary.
    Seven.
__Then, if we subtract 659 from that -evil number- our remainder becomes
again that lucky contrary number, 7.
    Seven<<<
    __Seven to us all! _m

    1. A lot of truth in your words, AG. We have to be wary...it is everywhere around us.
Personally, I find it hard to trust anyone anymore.
We have an election coming up shortly, and I find myself unsure of who to vote for. They all make idle promises...and so many skeletons fall out of cupboards at these times...power is all too often the only goal...
