THE DEAD

At the crematorium ashes revert to ashes. Lacking
all sensation now: they can no longer laugh, cry,
nor hold or caress those they've left behind;
but have, world-wrecked, seemingly entered oblivion.

Not so their thoughts, though, for these still
permeate the airways, influencing the living
on subtle levels that we fail to perceive
from within our dismal cocoons of grief.

Yet...if only we could train ourselves to see
beyond the pain, the sorrow of our loss
and realise they haven't left us - not in truth.
Their forms are simply lighter now, too fine for human eyes.
And they sit not at God's right hand, nor the Devil's left;
but continue, just as before, to love and live with us...

So sorry I haven't been able to visit anyone this week, but as most of you know, I travel a lot throughout the spring and summer...and have been in a signal dead spot...:/

  8. Wonderful poem. I think there is a lot of truth hiding in the thoughts expressed by those forms that can no longer be seen.

    1. I totally agree, Anthony...I spent many years as a paranormal investigator, collecting evidence of the existence of these unseen presences...and as a result, I am a total believer!
      So glad you liked this...and many thanks.:)

  13. Hello greetings and g ood wishes.

    You have put in so much thought in crafting this fabulous poem. In a nutshell,I think you are conveying the message that although our near and dear ones pass away they are still with us and watching over us. They shed their bodily form but they don't go any where but remain with us.This is indeed a revolutionary way of thinking.

    Your skill in the use of words is amazing.

    Best wishes

    1. Hi Joseph, hope you are having a great Sunday!

      Thank you so much for your more than kind comment. I truly appreciate it.
      I have always been aware of the unseen presences around me. Ever since early childhood I have been able to see deceased family members at or around the moment of their deaths...so these things are perfectly normal to me.:)

      I am so happy you liked this.:))

      Have a great day!

  18. Beautiful dear Ygraine and i agree 100% our grief is like a thick blanket that stops any wonderful words or feelings coming through. I know that when I went to my dad's apt after he died to pick up a suit, I felt a sudden cold, and I could have opened up, but I was too stressed taking care of my sick mom, an extremely high-stress job, divorce and my baby, and i remember feeling him and telling him no dad not now... because i had too much stress at the moment I couldn't deal with a visit...so he came to me in a dream and he said 'Lorraine, everything you believe in, is true, there are really no problems at all' well in French but still...you have to open up......now I am but sometimes the pain of being in an apt closeted so near to everyone and everything makes me shut off ...so i don't feel it's hard, n'est-ce pas?

    1. Oh Sweetie...I am so sad to hear how much you have had to cope with...if only I could have known you then, and been there to lend a hand.
      I do genuinely believe that our loved ones never completely leave us all the time we are still here on earth. I have had so much proof, that I no longer even question its being otherwise.
      Oh Sweetie, your comment has touched my heart today...
      am sending you much Love and Positivity...:)

  19. Could not agree more with your words,
    "And they sit not at God's right hand, nor the Devil's left;
    but continue, just as before, to love and live with us". Rightly mentioned.
    I hope you are having a nice travel and I am certain that you will surprise me with another great piece of poetry. Have a nice trip and enjoy the moment. God bless you, dear friend.
