For Paul Gedzyk...
There is this memory of two wheels
churning up a spray of mud
high into the Boxing Day air.
Then the blue blur of your helmet
as you enter then leave my vision
in an instant, grappling with thin air
while your bike performs elaborate somersaults
in the opposite direction.
My heart is pounding with dread
as I approach the scene, my head
full of images of your broken bloodied body.
But you are fine...this time,
just resemble some grotesque mud monster
rising up out of the ground, as the crowd
rush to your aid. Trembling, I head to the pub
for a double brandy...
I read some of your poems and I'm sure that you are a great poet.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm following you.

Excellent my dearest and beautiful friend!
ReplyDeleteFilled with emotional overtones and the fear of watching a loved one in mortal danger!
You always choose descriptive words with just the right amount of feeling!

Oh WOW...that is so kind, dearest Jan...and I appreciate it so much!😊😊
DeletePaul is an ex colleague of my hubby's...whom we used to support at the bike trials. Unfortunately, he did later sustain serious injuries in a road accident, when he hit a tree on his bike and had to undergo surgery to rebuild several bones.🙁
He is fine now though, and is back in the saddle!😊
Have a fabulous day, my lovely friend!
All my love and hugs ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
BEAUTIFULLY written and captured. And yes, our hearts do more acrobatics than those we watch some days.
ReplyDeleteOceans of caring flowing your way.
Oh thank you, Sue...I so appreciate that!😊😊
DeletePlease stay safe and well, my dear friend...
Sending you much love and hugs ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Ygraine, my heart goes out to you, my good friend!
ReplyDeleteA couple shots of brandy sure sounds good to wash away some of the anguish I've been feeling lately, but I can no longer drink any type of alcohol, due to the fact that I almost died from alcohol poisoning from having too much in my system. If it wasn't for my wife being there at that time, I wouldn't be here today.
Yes, I know how close you came to losing your life my friend...and I could weep for all the suffering you've been through in your life.😢
DeleteStay strong and safe, my good friend...sending you lots of positivity...😊👍😊👍
… and I'm sure that double brandy helped.
ReplyDeleteAnother powerful and very descriptive poem, thank you.
I hope you have a good weekend. The weather looks set fair again, so a local walk will be included in our plans … oh, to go further afield but not yet.
All the best Jan
It surely did, Jan!! 😉

Ygraine,
ReplyDeleteThe blue blur on your helmet is also the color of your eyes, which makes my vision and my heart beat not with fear, but with the toast of our double brandy and all my kisses, which are always on your mouth ... Bilingual!

DeleteThank you so much, Yannis...it was one of those poems that seemed to just write itself...a product, I guess, of old memories resurfacing...and I have experienced a bread deal if those recently...😉
