MAUDLIN

Scattered like skittles beneath full moon,
these whisky-swigging girls foul-mouthed curse
the Royal Oak landlord who threw them out
and left them in the gutter squirming like maggots.

Laddered tights and bloodied knees,
brains addled - what, why, how did they get here?
And what is it that stirs up such galling angst
that drenches them now in bitter tears?

Escaping the lockdown to live it up
without any conscience - why should they care
if tonight's binge on alcohol and rebellion
kills more of us...as long as they survive?

  2. My sweet Ygraine,
Whiskey, girls in short pants (and not-so-short lives), all lit up by a huge full moon, are able to baffle a "lone wolf".
Escape the blockade (of a "Kingdom today disunited"), live your quarantine with me, without fear ... Without "Brexit", so that we can survive.
    Nice text!
    Many kisses!!!

  5. Love the imagery portrayed. Much better than photos or illustrations. Can see them all perfectly. But awe to be so free of the baggage of caring about anyone but self… and free to ignore self too. A temporary freedom at best. I wonder?
We have way too many here in US thinking they can escape the consequences. And the rest of us are paying dearly for it. Sad.
    Take care..

    1. Yes, I think a temporary freedom that too many are at present pursuing.🙁
Exactly the same here...parties every weekend, and our beaches seriously overcrowded every time we have a sunny day. Sheer madness.
So happy you liked the poem...in spite of it's subject!😉
      Thank you so much!😊😊

Have a good weekend...and stay safe.

  8. I was sitting, sleepless, at 3am (as is the usual case recently) and trying to override the noise of yet another wild party going on...when I composed this.
I guess it was an outlet for my frustration!😉
We'd all like to be socialising and enjoying ourselves, but the thought of harming others prevents us.
    Witnessing such recklessness scares me...
    Many thanks, Yannis!😊😊

Have a good weekend...and stay safe!

  10. Only you my dear and sweet friend could turn to poetry and make it fitting and beautifully written into a plea for consideration and the trouble that we bring to ourselves and others when we lose track of what is important in life.

    Bravo Beautiful Soul Sister 💗

  14. I regret this is sadly true of too many.
Covid 19 is here to stay and we really ALL need to act responsibly.

On a different note hasn't the weather here in the UK been hot!
Too hot really, I am so looking forward to cooler days, and Autumn is just around the corner :)

    All the best Jan

    1. Absolutely!
We have been staying in Cornwall this past week, and you wouldn't believe how crowded it is! We have just just driven past the beaches the returned to our isolated farm field and caravan. And people are acting so thoughtlessly and out of control. I'm not surprised the infection rate is rising.🙄
Yes, it has been too hot...there was a severe storm back at our home town and the shopping centre was devastated. My son was at work at the time, and the roof collapsed. The staff were fortunate to escape injury...or worse! They believe it was a lightening strike.
Seems these storms are becoming more and more frequent. Scary.😨

      Have a great day.

  16. I don't know if I understood your poem very well ... In any case I can say that there are people who are unable to abstain for a long time from the things that give them the greatest pleasure, whether addictions or alcohol & drug parties, etc. ., even though these attitudes may be too dangerous for themselves and others.
I really liked your poem, it is "just" excellent (what your insomniacs do ...).
Stay well and safe, my dear friend.
    Kisses.

    1. I'm seeing so much of this kind of thing recently, and I do find it sad that people can be so reckless, when so many vulnerable people are dying.🙁
I guess this was my attempt to express my feelings about the subject. Perhaps I failed to communicate it clearly...so I apologise for that.
I'm really happy you liked it though...and many, many thanks, my dear friend!😊😊

Please stay safe and well too.

    2. It is not your fault, I am the one who has some difficulty in interpreting poems in English ... and sometimes even in Portuguese ...

  19. i am sorry that some uncomfortable situation made you write this poem dear friend

i think the girls you talked about will understand other's pain when reach in same age or lord forbid will experience crucial health issues but then it will be too late to console or regret what they did to others
