You've departed but I remain
the same person, but outwardly changed.
Only in dreams can I reclaim
these ageing features rearranged,
and once again become best friends
with my mirror. How I've been short-changed!
Old photographs that I stumbled upon
evoked the excitement of yesteryear
and revealed at once time's spiteful con:
eternal youth? A lie, I fear!
Smooth skin banished, passion vanished -
life as a crone would be much too drear.
NO!! My spirit will not succumb.
Inside I'm sixteen - and I'm staying here! ππ
Wonderful. I think the same a lot.. I’m a child starting out a new day as long as I avoid the lying mirrors…
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anthony...I'm really happy you enjoyed, and to have found a kindred spirit!ππ
DeleteOf course you are my beautiful soul sister...
ReplyDeleteage is but a number
like sleeping beauty during her slumber
her mirror knew the truth
though time had passed she still had her youth...
as you will forever.
Love and Big Hugs ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Aww, how you never fail to raise the self-esteem and the spirits, dearest Jan!!
DeleteOh thank you...so very much!ππ
All my love and hugs ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
A very beautiful poem.

My inner child is frequently the healthiest and happiest part of me. However, I would not choose to be a teenager again. Never, ever.
ReplyDeleteLate twenties perhaps...
Love your poem though.
Oh definitely teens for me...except, of course, for the inevitable heartbreaks that come with such a tender age!!π
DeleteThis poem was inspired by something I saw on TV. A programme about the western world's obsession about ageing. It made me chuckle and I felt I just had to write about it!! Lol
So happy you enjoyed, dearest She...and many thanks.ππ
Much love and hugs ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This is exceptional! My mirror is my enemy these days
ReplyDeleteI too feel 16, but my enemy laughs at me & I hate her for that.
I like Jan poetic response too.
DeleteHaha!! Yes, peculiar how when we're young we think older people are a different race...but when we reach that age, we find that we haven't inwardly changed at all!π
DeleteDon't laugh, but I still wear the same kind of clothes and have the same interests as I did at sixteen!!ππ
A sad case, maybe?? Lol
Thank you so much, Anni...I really appreciate that!

My sweet Ygraine,
ReplyDeleteThe comings and goings of life leave us in pieces, but they do not break us. Age comes, but maturity does not always accompany our feelings. The photos they reveal to us today say a lot and, at the same time, so little. The existing lies, until they passed, getting lost in time. Anyway, life is like that, it doesn't succumb to the time it never stops shedding its tears on us.
Many kisses! Be well, because you live in my heart! π
My dear Doug, how I wish I possessed your eloquent way with words!! The way you express this experience is second to none, it says everything I have tried yet failed to find the precise words to say.
DeleteYou are amazing...oh thank you, so so much!ππ
Stay safe and well...and enjoy your day!
Many Kisses xxx
Loved your poem, it made me smile :)
ReplyDeleteThe weather this week has been so dreary hasn't it.
The grandchildren are having an at home Halloween evening, which they are so looking forward to.
Happy Halloween Wishes to you.
All the best Jan
Oh I'm so glad you enjoyed, Jan...and many thanks!ππ
DeleteYes, pretty grim weather, isn't it?! And seems like there's more to come...
I do hope your Halloween with the children was a great one.ππ
Have a lovely day!

Oh dear Ygraine this was SPLENDID :)))
ReplyDeletehow beautifully you recalled days when body is wrapped in silk of youth that seems enchanting and everlasting then but how rudely time take it away and leave body like melting piece of ice
learning though that each station of this journey has it's own charm and sometimes i feel lucky to experience this maturity brought by aging to me :)
but deep inside i still dwell on hardly six year old when life seemed a fairy tale :)))
thank you sooo much for uplifting my day with your magnificent piece of poetry !
hugs and best wishes for your days ahead dearest Ygraine !
Dearest Baili, oh what can I say...only, thank you so so much for these wonderful words of encouragement! They truly mean so much to me!!ππ
DeleteYou are absolutely right...every age we live through in our lives brings it's own joys and sorrows...each of which, I am certain, teaches us a valuable spiritual lesson.
I am so happy you enjoyed reading, my beautiful friend!!
Stay safe and well!
Much love and hugs ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The passing of time may be scary because it will change everyone's physical appearance.
ReplyDeleteBut don't worry my friend Ygraine ..
age is just a number ...
What is the meaning of an era.
toned skin is just an appearance ..
What appears
Passion and passion cannot be lost, it cannot be lost to achieve dreams.
You have to stay young at heart ..
You have to keep up
You have to stay energetic
Then your positive aura will appear ..
The light of happiness will shade you.
Don't worry, Ygraine my friend. ..
Age is just a number ..
Your soul is forever young.
Have a nice weekend
Regards
Oh how beautiful and moving your poem is, dear Cherry!!
DeleteI have returned to read it five times so far...and will do many times more!ππ
Oh thank you so, so much for this...it is immensely more eloquent than anything I could ever write.
WOW, what a talent!!!
Have a lovely day, dear friend πππ
Love and hugs xxx
Unfortunately, youth is not eternal, at least as far as the body is concerned. But the spirit can stay young for many years.
ReplyDeleteI really liked your poem. It's magnificent.
Have a nice weekend, my dear friend Ygraine.
Kisses.
Here's to that youthful spirit...may it be everlasting! π
DeleteOh thank you, Jaime...so much! And I'm really happy you liked it.ππ
Have a super day, my dear friend.

Beautiful, time flies by so quickly! I also feel like a kid inside. Wonderful poem as always!
ReplyDeleteTrue. Who we are inside never really changes, does it?!
DeleteMany thanks, Natalia...so glad you enjoyed.ππ

Let's instill in ourselves and our minds are always young, dear YGraine. Age may increase, it is true and our physique is likely to change too, but ... if we always make sure we are young, then we will always feel young and happy too.
ReplyDeleteCheers.
A wonderful philosophy, my dear friend...and one that I totally agree with!
DeleteI think, if I live to be a hundred years old, I will still be who I am today inside! Lol
Have a wonderful day!
Greetings ππ
Hi.
ReplyDeleteHi! And thanks for your visit.ππ xxx
DeleteYes, youth will go away, but there's still more thing to help us to carry on.
ReplyDeleteHugs.
Absolutely!ππ
DeleteHugs xxx
Oh WOW, you are so kind...my heartfelt thanks.ππ
ReplyDeleteI do so hope you are all well...such tragic news of that horrendous earthquake.π My heart goes out to everyone there❤
Please take care, and stay safe.
A Hug.
I've yet to feel old inside, even as the decades pass by, but there are those who have gone and who only visit in dreams... Nice poem.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Jeff...and it is really good to hear from you!ππ
DeleteReally happy you enjoyed.
Thank you ππ
ReplyDeletewell i sure can relate.
ReplyDeleteI tell the mirror that it is just an illusion.
i put on my hiking shoes
Open the door and leave that silly illusion behind at least for awhile.
