TO YOUTH

You've departed but I remain
the same person, but outwardly changed.
Only in dreams can I reclaim
these ageing features rearranged,
and once again become best friends
with my mirror. How I've been short-changed!

Old photographs that I stumbled upon
evoked the excitement of yesteryear
and revealed at once time's spiteful con:
eternal youth? A lie, I fear!
Smooth skin banished, passion vanished -
life as a crone would be much too drear.
NO!! My spirit will not succumb.
Inside I'm sixteen - and I'm staying here! πŸ˜‰πŸ˜‰

  1. Wonderful. I think the same a lot.. I’m a child starting out a new day as long as I avoid the lying mirrors…

  2. Of course you are my beautiful soul sister...

    age is but a number
like sleeping beauty during her slumber
    her mirror knew the truth
though time had passed she still had her youth...
    as you will forever.

    Love and Big Hugs ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

  4. My inner child is frequently the healthiest and happiest part of me. However, I would not choose to be a teenager again. Never, ever.
    Late twenties perhaps...
    Love your poem though.

    1. Oh definitely teens for me...except, of course, for the inevitable heartbreaks that come with such a tender age!!πŸ˜‰
This poem was inspired by something I saw on TV. A programme about the western world's obsession about ageing. It made me chuckle and I felt I just had to write about it!! Lol
So happy you enjoyed, dearest She...and many thanks.😊😊

      Much love and hugs ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

  5. This is exceptional! My mirror is my enemy these days
I too feel 16, but my enemy laughs at me & I hate her for that.

    2. Haha!! Yes, peculiar how when we're young we think older people are a different race...but when we reach that age, we find that we haven't inwardly changed at all!πŸ˜‰
Don't laugh, but I still wear the same kind of clothes and have the same interests as I did at sixteen!!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
      A sad case, maybe?? Lol

Thank you so much, Anni...I really appreciate that!

  6. My sweet Ygraine,
The comings and goings of life leave us in pieces, but they do not break us. Age comes, but maturity does not always accompany our feelings. The photos they reveal to us today say a lot and, at the same time, so little. The existing lies, until they passed, getting lost in time. Anyway, life is like that, it doesn't succumb to the time it never stops shedding its tears on us.
Many kisses! Be well, because you live in my heart! πŸ’˜

The weather this week has been so dreary hasn't it.
The grandchildren are having an at home Halloween evening, which they are so looking forward to.
    Happy Halloween Wishes to you.

  8. Oh dear Ygraine this was SPLENDID :)))

how beautifully you recalled days when body is wrapped in silk of youth that seems enchanting and everlasting then but how rudely time take it away and leave body like melting piece of ice

learning though that each station of this journey has it's own charm and sometimes i feel lucky to experience this maturity brought by aging to me :)
but deep inside i still dwell on hardly six year old when life seemed a fairy tale :)))
thank you sooo much for uplifting my day with your magnificent piece of poetry !
hugs and best wishes for your days ahead dearest Ygraine !

You are absolutely right...every age we live through in our lives brings it's own joys and sorrows...each of which, I am certain, teaches us a valuable spiritual lesson.
I am so happy you enjoyed reading, my beautiful friend!!

  9. The passing of time may be scary because it will change everyone's physical appearance.
But don't worry my friend Ygraine ..
age is just a number ...
What is the meaning of an era.
toned skin is just an appearance ..
    What appears
Passion and passion cannot be lost, it cannot be lost to achieve dreams.
You have to stay young at heart ..
    You have to keep up
    You have to stay energetic
Then your positive aura will appear ..
The light of happiness will shade you.
Don't worry, Ygraine my friend. ..
Age is just a number ..
    Your soul is forever young.
    Have a nice weekend
    Regards

  10. Unfortunately, youth is not eternal, at least as far as the body is concerned. But the spirit can stay young for many years.
I really liked your poem. It's magnificent.
Have a nice weekend, my dear friend Ygraine.

  12. Let's instill in ourselves and our minds are always young, dear YGraine. Age may increase, it is true and our physique is likely to change too, but ... if we always make sure we are young, then we will always feel young and happy too.
    Cheers.

  17. well i sure can relate.
I tell the mirror that it is just an illusion.
i put on my hiking shoes
Open the door and leave that silly illusion behind at least for awhile.
