THE GREAT MISTAKE

Please do not believe me a fool,
Nor that you'll later think she was an easy conquest;
Or it serves her right for being so gullible;
Nor laugh about the things I didn't say:
No, I'm not interested; out of the question;
You're not welcome; stay out of my affairs;
These things are private -
For my knowledge only.

And please do not believe you caught me
On an off-day and took advantage
With a glib tongue that wheedled from me
The Great Mistake:
My downfall; sacrifice of future comforts;
Independence; everything I've worked for -
In fact, my very identity...

When you convinced me you were calling
From my bank and elicited from me
My personal codes.

And finally, do not believe for one moment
That you have got away with it.
Oh, no doubt you think yourself clever
And now rather well off with your ill-gotten gains:
But, boy, do I have news for you.
Let me formally introduce myself:
I am Detective Inspector Lucy Lane.
I have been tracking you for months...

And now you, my friend, are nicked!

  1. ugh oh...someone is in trouble...they messed with the wrong person...esp poignant considering the theft at Target of all those peoples information...identity theft is scary stuff...and leaves you wondering who to believe at all when it comes to sharing your information....

  2. Hearing of so many of these scams, both on TV and from those I know personally...I am SO annoyed!
    Wouldn't it be great if occasionally the tables were turned on the culprit? Ha!
    Bet that would make him think twice before trying that again!!

    This sort of thing has happened once to my son, and I narrowly escaped an attempt myself just recently.
    I seriously worry for elderly and vulnerable people. What defence do they have? Doesn't bear thinking about, does it...:/

    1. I so agree with you...think it's high time we finally defeated the scammer once and for all...but precisely how to do that? Unfortunately, not so easy...:/
      Many thanks, Anthony

  4. I was sucked into this poem thinking you were speaking to an ex-love and then at the end thinking, what's the difference, actor, lover, culprit, identities affected. I also like your idea of "the great mistake".

    1. Oh Lorraine...I am truly sorry to hear you have been caught in this cruel way too. I really feel for you.
      These people will undoubtedly bring suffering to themselves...we both know that, do we not?! We Pagans live by the Universal rule that states: As you do, so shall you receive back tenfold. So digest that, scammer...and it couldn't happen to a more deserving section of humanity!!
      Many thanks, Lorraine xxx

  14. Revenge can be sweet at times...not for some little thing, some trifle, minor thing. But when it comes to fleecing good, hard-working people then let the revenge be their worst nightmare!!!
