ECLIPSE

The Moon is growing full again.
See her swollen belly,
heavy with the foetus within?

I remember when she was stick-thin,
invisible almost,
a virginal crescent

of glowing gold
that inflamed the Sun God,
then stole his fire.

Observing the eclipse in awe,
a God and Goddess' coupling
that touches us all:

In the blackout
I feel your hands
arousing in me a hunger.

On this rain-drenched beach
I take it all:
your pulsing energy

and reaching deeper,
discover an awakening Soul
as desperate as mine for immortality...

But Her time has passed now.
She is growing slim again.
Oh such bitter disappointment -

I am not the chosen one
to bear a miniature Sun.
There is only blood...

  1. its all part of the cycles...she is fickle...preferring not to let any of us own her...she gives that love and pulls the tides of each as indiscriminate...she is beautiful though....enjoy her while she faces you and know that as she turns away, she will be back soon...

    1. Moon cycles have always fascinated me...I find myself most motivated during the waxing Moon, less so in the waning phase.
But the full Moon is the most difficult...I am restless, often irritable, yet am at my most creative.
As for an eclipse...well they bring tremendous headaches!! LOL
      Many thanks, Brian :)

  2. I love the way this was written around the different phases of the moon....how in each month it goes from full, to thin, back to full again...

    1. Ever since I was really small, I have regarded the full Moon as the pregnant womb of the Goddess...I can clearly see the foetus! *smiles*...perhaps I am mad, or could you see those craters the same way too?
Yes, I love to observe the phases...to make up stories for each one.
Think I'll definitely be deemed insane one day!!! Haha :D

      Many thanks, Keith :)

  3. Elegantly written, dear Ygraine...so beautiful. I also love seeing the moon in all of her phases and to know that she watches over the earth while it sleeps under her caring caress...being the Goddess that she is~

    1. Do you know, Jan, that is exactly how I feel?
When I gaze at the full Moon, I see not a simple Moon, but a Goddess.
She definitely rules my emotions, as effortlessly as She controls the tides.
Yes, a powerful presence indeed! :)

      Many thanks, dear Friend xxx

I believed this a very simple poem, a personal view of the Moon. I certainly never expected such praise.

  14. Beautifully written, a surprisingly wonderful eclipse!
A pregnant moon, bearing the sun's son, a miniature sun, I love this idea! :)
The Sun as symbol of love, caressing and warming her...
And the terrible end, the moon's aborting... bleeding.
    A hug.
