There's a black hole forming in the sun today.
It's ten degrees colder than yesterday.
There's snow falling in the middle of June
as the Sorceress casts the chaos rune.
Well she's been here before at the dawn of time
chanting, chanting her deadly rhyme.
Today's no more than another turn
in the downward spiral before we burn.
If you don't believe it just look around:
the snow is burying all hallowed ground
and last year's storms that battered our lands
could only be the work of demonic hands.
There's a skeleton trapped in a Somerset cave
and a shoal of dead fish on the ocean wave.
There's a bumble bee trapped in a spider's web,
while a surfer drowns on the wild tide's ebb.
There's a king dethroned and put to death,
as a holy man takes his final breath.
There's a rich man stripped of his worldly goods
and orchids trampled in war-torn woods.
There's a plane brought down by a terrorist's bomb
and we've no idea where the perpetrator's from.
There's a fox dismembered by the baying hounds
alive upon a nobleman's grounds.
There's a blind man mugged by a bunch of kids
and satanic desecration of the pyramids.
There are starving children born to die -
do we really need to question why?
And the Devil's sorceress smiles...

There is dfe something wrong with the world today. It woul dbe quite easy if we could blame it all on a sorceress. But then again that would take the responsibility off of us, for what we have made of this world. I am sure the Devil and all his minions are smiling.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely!
DeleteThat was what I was getting at...although in a tongue-in-cheek way!;)
Finding some mythical being to blame frees us from examining our own motives and actions.
Perhaps it is a part of collective "us" that is smiling...
Many thanks.
Wishing you a great weekend! :))
There are a lot of things wrong with the society in general today, a lot of the blame tends to get watered down due to politics, selfishness, religion or whatever, and we miss out on the real people suffering, the real questions that need answers.
ReplyDeleteGreat piece!
I totally agree with you...politics, selfishness, religion...all detract from the truth...that real living people are suffering...and that is what really matters.
DeleteBy pulling together rather than apart, we could ease so much of that suffering...
Thank you so much.:)
Fantastic writing, dear friend!!! We all know that "man" is the true sorcerer/sorceress, but putting blame on the mythical and mystical beings is a great way man has of absolving his blame for the shape the world is in.
ReplyDeleteLots of Love and Hugs
xoxoxo
Yes, you've really made me think...maybe that is why man originally invented mythical beings...to have "someone" to blame for his weaknesses and faults...perhaps that is why I, too, feel so drawn to the ancient mythological beings...:/
DeleteThank you so much, my dear friend! :)
Much Love & Hugs xoxoxo

The most intriguing to me is the that you slapped the devil and a sorceress together in the title. Did he make her? Does he really even need her? I mean, he IS the devil. He can probably handle things on his own.
ReplyDeleteWhat if what the title really says is The Devil's Sore Seeress? Or Sore Caress? Or Sore Care-ess? Sore Sea Res(t)? Deville. Cruella. She's just a cartoon, you know. Not real at all.
Here real name is June.
"There's snow falling in the middle of June" ... And she's heartbroken. But her tears fall as snow (in metaphor) rather than rain, because they're so lightweight and fragile. If only you really knew her.
Ha...now there is a question!
DeleteI think perhaps it is a case of her wanting to equal his power...to prove to him that a mere mortal can take his power and throw it around as easily as he...but of course we all know what happens in the cartoons, don't we?
The usurper is usually obliterated by the inversion of the very power he/she seeks to steal!!
Oh absolutely...those tears reveal her innate fragility...that same fragility that will probably be the ultimate undoing of the human race...
I think I am just beginning to know her...
Many thanks, Shawna.:)
Really amazing and scared Ygraine, you are really perceptive around you, me too:)
ReplyDeletehugs xoxoxox
Oh thank you, my dear Friend...you are so kind...and I so appreciate that! :)
DeleteLots of Love & hugs xoxoxo
Wow an amazing poem -it reminds me of a Sting song from a while back "King of Pain". As always your powerful words and imagery create such raw feeling and emotion Ygraine. So brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI'm not familiar with that Sting song...so I must check it out. I'm sure I must have heard it at one time or another.
DeleteThank you so much for kind and encouraging comment...it truly means so much...:)
xoxoxo
An amazing poem, Ygraine!
ReplyDeleteAn amazing poem, Ygraine!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks, Linda!
DeleteDo hope you're having a great week.:)

Excellent allegorical description of the the confusion that overtakes us as a people and the misery it brings. So long as such poems are written, I maintain a trust in humanity's ability to improve and seek truth, kindness --one reader, one person at a time.
ReplyDeleteDo you know, Geo...sometimes I sit there just watching the news on TV, and I feel incredibly helpless.
DeleteIt is the sheer magnitude of the suffering worldwide that gets to me...and I can't help feeling guilty...
Many thanks, my friend.:)
This is one for the book Ygraine. "We" definitely are in a spiral but calling it to consciousness as you have will hopefully awaken the sleepers. You're opening line is much more dreadful than the use of "There's a dark spot forming in the sun today." With the use of a black hole we're pretty much sucked! :D ;) Besos Yg.
ReplyDeleteDon't know about you, TUG...but I feel I'm being sucked more and more deeply into that hole on a daily basis.
DeleteWhat does it all mean - all these things that are going on around us, these sad tragedies, that no one seems able to prevent?
The only way I can hang onto my sanity is by placing tongue firmly in cheek!
Many thanks, my dear friend! :)
Do hope all is well with you...x
Wow! such sober feelings I got reading through this piece. One can't overlook the wrongs being inflicted on the human race by humans but we will learn to find peace as a people.
ReplyDeleteOh how I hope that day comes soon...before we run out of time.
DeleteThe things going on in the world today really frighten me...for our children and their children and so on through the generations.
If you and I can see and understand what is happening...then why can't the powers that be?
Is beyond me...:/
Many thanks, my friend xoxoxo
When my baby daughter was dying, I made a pact with god ... then with the devil ... hoping one of these beings will have the power to restore her health ... neither of them acted in her favour ... I do believe it's waste of time to look for some mythical being out there to help, to blame ... whatever the case may be, hmmm? Love, cat.
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing, Cat!
DeleteThis could be my life story...I, too, lost a baby daughter...and when she was dying, I tried pleading with just about every spiritual and mythical being I could think of.
But, of course, it made no difference whatsoever. She still passed away at the tender age of two weeks...
I wonder what it is with we humans...this need to accord blame when tragedy strikes...
Yet it seems that practically everyone has been guilty of it at some time.
Thank you so much for sharing your sad story with me.
Having been there myself...I know how difficult it is to share such painful memories.
Much Love & Hugs xoxoxo
If we, as the Sorceress, bring it on, it we can also dispel ... never allow our good souls to shatter or be devoured. xx
ReplyDeleteOh absolutely!
DeleteSometimes it is difficult to avoid having negative thoughts...but I believe that if we can just concentrate on pure Love...and really feel it in our hearts (no matter what is going on around us)...then maybe we can someday influence those around us and gradually bring about a turning point.
Impossibly optimistic?
But I can't help hoping...:)
Many thanks, Dale.
Have a great day! :)
xoxoxo
A daunting task, indeed, but I do believe! I also have to mention how beautiful and thought-provoking you poem is! :) xx
DeleteA daunting task, indeed, but I do believe! I also have to mention how beautiful and thought-provoking you poem is! :) xx
DeleteCan't help wishing though, Dale!
DeleteThank you so much...xoxoxo
holy! wow!!! You nailed this poem right to our consciousness.
ReplyDeleteI always felt that there are strong forces lurking around us all.
Controlling what we do, tempting us of sin, etc...etc.
Beautifully written and loving your rhymes.
P.S Stop by my page and check out my new poem I posted yesterday.
I know you'll enjoy it. It will trip you out.
So you feel it too, Charlie...then maybe I'm not quite as mad as I thought I was! Phew...what a relief!!
DeleteSo happy you liked this.:)
Will check out your poem shortly. can't wait! :))
Wonderful poetry. It all flows with an explanation, a reason for the pain☺
ReplyDeleteIf only there were a reason...something we could easily rectify and make everything OK.
DeleteI guess this poem was really an exercise in finding that mythical solution...would be relatively easy then, wouldn't it?
We could simply eliminate the Sorceress!
Dream on, girl! ;)
Many thanks, Anthony.:)
I see constant change all around me every day, whether good or bad, but the main thing I'm finding for myself is how I can change in order to be able to echo out my energy to others.
ReplyDeleteI honestly believe that is the only solution.
DeleteIt needs each and every one of us to consciously change our thought patterns into positive and loving ones...so we can influence all those around us...allowing our loving influence to spread out across the world like rings on the water.
Are we hoping for too much, Lon?
I hope not.
Thank you so much, my dear friend.:)
Have a great week :))
Gosh you take my breath away, oh please let Fall and Winter come soon, wonderful write dear Ygraine
ReplyDeleteOh thank you so much, Sweetie!
DeleteUnlike you, though, I want to hang onto summer forever...I have the strong feeling that this winter is going to be one of the hardest I will ever have to face...
Have a great day, my dear friend!:)
Lots of Love xoxoxo
Then I will take the worst of the winter unto me, and let winter softly go through you like a summer breeze and always, always lots of Love xoxoxo my dear, dear Ygraine
DeleteOh Sweetie...I am speechless...such selflessness makes me cry.
DeleteI could never let you do that...you mean too much to me. Your precious friendship and support is more than enough to help me through these difficult times.
Thank you...from the depths of my heart. xoxoxo
Boa tarde, Ygraine! este seu lindo poema é como uma melodia tocada por um piano que entra em nós, gostei de a ler.
ReplyDeleteAG
Thank you so much, AG...your kind words mean so much!
DeleteWishing you a magical weekend...:))
This is so compelling. So powerful. How long do we need to pretend everything's okay with the world? My heart breaks to stories like those.
ReplyDeleteReminds me so much of Michael Jackson's songs.
So happy you enjoyed this post, Lux...and thank you so much for your kind and encouraging comment.
DeleteI used to really like Michael Jackson's songs too...he was a truly great singer.
Have a great weekend! :))
Brilliant post Ygraine :)
