It began with a copy of Wuthering Heights.
Echoes of intrigue lept out of the pages.
I felt them weave themselves into my being.
Another's creation. But where is she now?
Death cannot erase greatness. It is
her immortality, her irresistibility. Why
not before? Had I lived then, could I
have known her, perhaps better understood?
Imagination. So she first entranced me with those miniscule
booklets: Gondal resurrected in my psyche.
Now, when I move, her pen moves with me.
Just out of sight, she directs my life, ever watchful.
And if, as she claims, Heathcliff truly loves Cathy,
then what kind of love is so obsessive
that it rips both Souls to shreds
and condemns them to eternal unrest?
Or is it my unrest - her words merely evoking
my deepest, most tormented desires?
If, as I suspect, I am Cathy; then I must find him -
he is the prize within the maze of words.
But, why should I read, when living it is more persuasive?
Or long to touch, when feeling without touching
is so unexpected, so exquisite and so rare?
Today, his proximity. Ecstasy is in the air.
So well expressed. The story read so long ago. The drama loved but hopefully avoided in a haunting place to visit and pretend.
ReplyDeleteThe story read so many times...until something bordering on obsession, here!π
DeleteI also adore visiting the Parsonage at Howarth...and Top Withins, where I have lingered to soak up the atmosphere more times that I can remember!!
What IS it about the Brontes that weaves such magic?!
Thank you so muchππ

My amazingly talented and beautiful soul sister, you could feel right at home in the 19th century. You would be a writer of life, history and romance like no other of the time because your soul was born of this era. I can picture you as a writer...a word Weaver.

ReplyDeleteEmily BrontΓ« is the inspiration of many people, with her intelligent and warm writing. A constant reference in the life of those who like books, as is my case. There are phrases from her on the ®DOUG BLOG.
Today I found here in this beautiful post, another beautiful narrative with her Ygraine style of expressing herself, bringing to us the memory of this brilliant writer.
Many kisses, good weekend and continue taking care of your health my dear friend.

Big Hugs back.
I read this book many years ago and I have a faint idea of the content. As I have it on the shelf, I will read it again.
ReplyDeleteReading a book is to interpret it. And, by your poetic words, you interpreted it in your own way and according to your culture and life experience and, mainly, your view of the world and its multiple things.
I really liked your poetic words, as always.
Have a good week, dear friend Ygraine.
Kisses. And stay safe and happy.
I have read this masterpiece so many times, Jaime...and with each reading I learn something new about the story!π
DeleteThis was just one interpretation...and the way it has captured my imagination...
