THE FAIRY TREE

The Fairy Tree stands sentinel over
this ancient woodland scene
where once both serf and cattle drover
worshiped their Nymph Queen.

But, sadly, today only modern feet
tread this sacred path
and no longer do we pause to greet
this monarch of bluebell swath.

For long ago She became invisible
to all but believer's eyes,
when weary of being an object risible
She assumed this sylvan guise.

  7. I had a favourite Fairy tree when I was little ... well, it was a sturdy old oak tree ... and I would sit in it 4 hours ... scaring people going by on their bicycles ... every time I'm in Europe now ... I walk by that tree ... and smile ... Love, cat.

  8. I believe that Fairy Tree will be proud to read your poem if it could read. How about, then, whispering it to it when you're next around? :-)

  9. What a beautiful tree. I love the large arching arms that spread. And yeah, far too many walk by and dont realize the beauty of her. Or take the time to thank her for watching over us -all.

  15. Aw. Most of us don't see a tree for a long time because we're all so focused looking at our phones or computer screens.

That's a glorious looking tree though.

  16. A beautiful tree and poem to remind us to look for the magic in our lives. I have several trees in a nearby wood that I visit frequently- they are so powerful (oaks) and always quiet my inner fears. Love this post Ygraine!

  17. Hello Ygraine,
Good shot with a nice story about this tree.
In every forest mostly there is one big old tree. Coincidence or not, but always very impressive to see.

    Many sweet greetings,
    Marco

  18. Hello,

Well crafted poem reminding us of the wonderful things freely available all around us provided we take the time to pause and look. But we never do this since we are busy with our daily chores and in the process forget to enjoy the beautiful things around us and they are all free.

Modern life has made us like automatons and like robots and we miss the astounding natural beauty that surrounds us.

    Best wishes

    1. Oh how true, Joseph...and how sad is that?
It really is true that the most important and beautiful things in life are free, isn't it?
If only we could all learn to open our eyes...especially me, sometimes!

      Many thanks. :))
