MODELS

Those stunning models in glossy magazines;
those airbrushed models who in soft focus glow;
those gorgeous models in barely-there dresses
that enhance impossibly perfect curves
and expose such luminous golden skin;
those seductive models who pout at the camera
with highly glossed lips in this season's shades.

Those universally emulated catwalk models
parading in all the very latest creations
by the most iconic designers worldwide
that only the wealthy elitist can afford;
those models with radiant flawless complexions:
huge eyes, high cheekbones and dazzling white teeth;
those models with exotic sounding one-off names...
who inspire in us comparisons that blight our lives.

  1. Those models who make me look and feel more gray, more wrinkled, even older and less feminine than I have ever felt in my life! But God bless them...I used to be just like them. I am still able to turn a head or two at 71, those heads are just a little older, as is mine and they turn a little slower :)

    I loved this my dear and beautiful friend!!! Your writings are always well written and wonderful, no matter the subject!!!

    Big, Big Hugs and Much Love 💕💗💕💞

  2. Dearest Jan...such a beautiful comment!
    I am not at all surprised to hear that you still turn heads...you are SO beautiful...and I know for a fact that you will still be turning heads when you are 101.
    I am not very confident about my looks. However, a real complement did come my way last week, when I was out with my son. Someone asked him if I was his wife (at 61, can you imagine how good that felt? lol).
    Aah, vanity!! haha

    1. You are gorgeous dear Ygraine and I would guess that you turn many heads your way as you go about your day!!!
      That was a beautiful compliment to a beautiful lady and I'd bet that your son was very proud of you!!!
      Vanity can be outdone but a little keeps us feeling good~

  3. Loved this poem. As I have never been a fashion-conscious person, I never tend to look at models in the same way. :-)

    Greetings from London.

    1. Don't believe I am either, not really. I just wear what I like, irrespective of whether or not it is considered fashionable by others.
      This post was the result of one of my deep thinking sessions...in which I was imagining how it feels to be one of those pubescent girls who is trying hard to live up to an impossible ideal that she has seen in magazines and on the catwalk. Must be utter torment!
      So glad I'm no longer in that age group!!

      Greetings from a rather grey Hampshire! :)

    1. Dearest Gloria...you are so right!
      Perhaps it is only in learning to see through all the falseness that true happiness can be found?
      Oh thank you so much...you are so kind...:))

  5. Enjoyed.. All models are beautiful, in different ways, waiting to be enhanced and modified for various purposes by artists, the photographers, the painters, the illustrators they pose for.

    1. Yes, I agree...beauty comes in many guises. In fact, I believe that EVERYONE is beautiful...in their own most unique way. That is what makes life so interesting!
      Many thanks, Anthony.:))

  6. Red hair,
    squeaky loafers,
    eyes aglow in freckles
    above her sweater and those jeans;
    magnet.

    __ That was my "Model" 38 years ago. Now, we've been "one" in marriage, for 36 years. Smiles! _m

  7. I enjoyed reading your poem.

    I think we should all be happy with our body - our looks.
    There is, and always has been, so much pressure for us to look like the advertisers want us to look like.
    The older I get the more I think, I'm just happy being me.
    Beauty comes from within.

    All the best Jan

    1. Oh that is SO true, Jan...I believe, too, that beauty comes from within...and being happy with ourselves - warts and all!
      It's taken me many years to learn that...but I'm just about there now! *smiles*

  8. I think the airbrushing, surgeries, botox....has gone WAY too far in recent years. And 20 years later, what do they look like? Usually unrecognizable. How awful to feel the need to do all that all in the name of "beauty". It's an illusion, that's for sure.

    Still loved your poem though!!!

    Have a super week my friend. )))))

    1. I know exactly what you mean...I recently saw a photo of a famous actress (no name mentioned!) in a magazine who has had extensive cosmetic surgery over the years...and whilst not intending to be unkind, I have to say in all honesty that she looks dreadful - more like a bad caricature than a real person.
      It makes me feel sad...she was so beautiful before, and I'm sure she would still have been now...if it hadn't have been for all these procedures.
      Yes, I will definitely be "growing old gracefully!";)

      Thank you so much for your great comment...it is good to hear your views on this subject. It seems most of us feel the same way!

    1. Oh thank you so much, Sweetie!
      Yes, me too...I love to see all those gorgeous models...in so many different shapes, sizes and ethnicities. It is so much better than it used to be when I was in my teens, in the 70's...when most of us felt so inferior just because we had the audacity to develop womanly curves (So glad I grew out of THAT phase!) lol

      Lots of Love & Hugs xoxoxo

  11. In my whole life i never wore make up except lipstick on special occasions or eye liner!

    yet i LOVE to see models walking with attitude and pride.
    Ah very little portion of age is to sparkle like star .Youth is such illusion ,i did not realized when it came and when it is gone.

    I don't like surgical change models and actresses do to look prettier ,most of cases it went opposite

    1. Same here, Baili...I only wear a little lipstick and eyeliner when I go out too.
      Yes, I love to see those models...so beautiful...and I longed to look like them when I was very young.*smiles*
      But, as you say, youth lasts a very short time...and then, I believe, a new kind of beauty takes it's place...the beauty that comes with being happy in our own skin.
      Cosmetic surgery scares me. I would never consider it, however unhappy I felt with my appearance. There are so many things that can go wrong...so many horror stories.
      Yes, I'll definitely "grow old gracefully!" :))
