Cornish folk still relate the tale
of midnight howling and dark shape prowling
through the mist upon Bodmin Moor,
and in the morning dead sheep scattered
drained of every drop of blood.
Full moon, dark moon, the moorland shepherds
they say kept watch over dwindling flocks,
yet failed to see what ripped out gizzards
with razor sharp teeth so blamed a beast
whose eyes flashed bright with ruby fire.
And legend has it the beast still stalks
in the drifting shadows, yet leaves a trail
of gigantic paw prints in rain-soaked soil.
Infamous, universally feared and yet the beast
only ever existed in the darkest recesses
of imagination's most sinister realm.
Oh!!! My dearest Ygraine I love this!!! You are a fantastic writer!!! You inspired my little verse below...
ReplyDeletehow creepy, how scary
a howling beast so hairy
with eyes of red
and teeth that shred
out on Bodmin Moor
leaving behind him blood and gore 👹
Great Big Hugs and Much Love, Always 💕

Have a Magical Weekend (really wish we could meet up for a coffee and a chat!)...and Lots of Love & Hugs xoxoxo
That would be great fun, my dear friend. Sometimes I feel that I should live there...in an old Manor with timber ceilings and a large hearth! Mustn't forget my old musty library with shelves full of ancient dusty books! And of course it would be on a cliff overlooking the stormy sea 💖💗💝
DeleteOh how I like the sound of that, dearest Jan...would be truly a dream come true for me! xoxoxo
DeleteMe also :)
DeleteI loved reading what you wrote, Ygraine my good friend, thanks for taking me there!
ReplyDeleteSorry for taking so long to respond to you and some others who left comments on some of my posts but, if you look back, I finally did.
Sometimes I can be a real beast as well, at least that's what my wife says.
Thank you, my Friend...so happy you enjoyed.
DeletePlease don't worry...sometimes there just aren't enough hours in the day. Believe me, I know!
Just to be able to visit and read your posts is enough for me.:)
Can't believe that, my Friend...I guess it's just that we women maybe expect too much sometimes...?!
Very much in spirit with the season.. Makes me homesick to places only visited through good late night reading and the nightmares that followed..
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed.
I had wanted to post something appropriate to Halloween, Anthony!*smiles*
