NATURE'S LIE

Often, our love is like a battleground
and when the warring reaches it's peak
and we are mutually wounded, it's like a deep sleep
and when we awaken it burns like fire;
but the flames never quite reach the heart
so although it beats faster there is no
Soul-connection. It's like a light bulb
powered by insufficient current: a dim half-glow...

And yet, my Love, we need each other
in lieu of something more profound.
It's Nature's perpetual lie.
And the lie is being on auto-pilot:
flying high on hormones,
telling ourselves we're OK,
while denying the existence of a gaping hollow
that even pregnancy cannot fill.

  1. Oh way too much experience here.. It shows. Enjoyed so much, though some pain in similar memories. I love the metaphors.

    1. Isn't it strange how an experience we believe to be unique to us so often turns out to be a shared one?
Thank you so much for understanding, dear Friend.

    2. I suppose that we aren't as different from one another or so unique as we think we are when it comes to the heart.

Thank you for being who you are...so caring and good...

  5. ugh. a bit stomach turning...i know a few babes born to try to fill that gap...to try to find love again...and it always ends rather heart breaking...we can only deny the pain and distance so long ...and if too long...it can be too late...

    1. Yes...the great myth..."Have a child and it will heal a disintegrating relationship!"
      It never works, does it?
And it always seems to hurt the child more than anyone else.
So glad I've never stepped into that particular scenario personally...I could never forgive myself if I had...

  11. Hi Ygraine.. your poems always take me into a deep place..there is a soft, gentle and bold- bittersweetness..a kind of sweet-painful place..love and heartache..contradictory worlds colliding and morphing as one and meeting truth.....it is brilliant. Very heartfelt and strong...
HUgs and blessings..your poetess nature always stirs my soul!
