APHASIA

Describing spring flowers is easy:
the fragile beauty of the bluebell,
blue as the morning sky,
as it dances to the slightest breeze.

And there are many ways to describe a red rose
with it's heady, intoxicating scent
that lifts our spirits
and makes us think of true love...

But there are no words for the vivid rawness
of the bloodied feathers and mangled flesh
of a once magnificent pheasant
suddenly ground into the cold motorway tarmac.

And how can one describe the piteous sight of his grieving mate
frantically running around in circles and crying out,
while deep inside her a developing eggshell
tenderly enfolds their now fatherless chick?

I am still unable to leave comments on your posts. I keep trying, but the page doesn't seem to fully load. Please can you tell me if anyone else is having a similar problem? Or perhaps it is my laptop. I have been experiencing some strange quirks recently.:/
    Many thanks.

  3. Lovely and tragic, both...but then so is life. You have it all in this superb piece of writing, my dearest Ygraine.

We are very much alike...in one of postings I told of a childhood memory where I wish that my parents would change my name to "Rose Red"...

    1. As a child, I always used to cry when I saw a dead animal or bird just left there on in the road...it seemed to me so cruel and lacking in respect. After all, a dead human would never be left there like that, would they?! And it hurts me still.:(

Yes, I remember your post. I found it so moving...such a beautiful childhood memory.:)

Thank you so much, my dear friend.

Lots of Love & Hugs xoxoxo

  7. Heartbreaking on the fatherless chick. Of the life sjuffed out too soon. Of the son that will have to find its own way. There can be beauty in that too - for those that endure.

    1. Hi Ghost Moon,
Absolutely...the inherent tragedy of life - I hadn't thought of it that way...how all life perpetually hangs in the balance.
Thank you for such a beautiful and meaningful comment...that I deeply appreciate...:))

  14. As speechless this sight can render one, you have certainly overcome it with your beautifully, yet stark, words. Sometimes being witness to a horror can bring out the best in a poet. This did bring a tear to my eye, yet I cannot imagine living my life not being able to feel as deeply as I do. Thank you for reminding me of this, Ygraine! xo

    1. You know, Dale...sometimes I forget that it isn't only we humans that have the monopoly of powerful emotions...and witnessing tragic events such as this one really drives it home.
It is often hard, feeling so deeply...but as you say, it is difficult to imagine being any other way.
At least people like us will never be cold and hard-hearted!

Thank you so much, my dear friend. xoxoxo
