WIND CHILL

In the fearsome gallery
of Emily's tortured imaginings
the exhibits reach out
and grind our entrails
between millstones of stark sadism.

Cathy's insane obsession,
Heathcliff's brutal vengeance:
so shocking - and yet,
something in us rebounds like an echo:
are those not just printed words,
but we the winds that drive the sails?

  3. Wonderful poem. Has me thinking about the story read so long ago. May spend the rest of this damp cold winter day there again.

Yes, the ideal time of year to read a dark and disturbing classic *smiles*

  4. Beautifully written dearest Ygraine. I wonder how many of us have had to rebound in order to survive "tortured imaginings."

    1. Oh I can highly recommend "Wuthering Heights" dearest Jan...but be warned - if you are at all sensitive, it does tend to "get inside your head!"
It has haunted me ever since I first read it, when I was in my early teens (yes, I know, A long, long time ago! LOL) and it still haunts me today!

Thank you so much, my dearest Friend! :))

Lots of Love & Hugs xoxoxo

__ And -my- understanding of your last line: we [are] the winds that drive the [our] sails. (Oddly, my post of an hour ago.)
