PANDEMIC

Within the grip of deadly pandemic
the dying suffer, beyond help of medic
or concept of luck; gasping for breath,
each personal effect will soon become relic.

Their lives almost done, the final task
is to say "goodbye" beneath stifling mask
before the inevitable coma overcomes
the will to pray and for miracle ask.

A unit in Critical Care painted blue -
the shade they deem a healing hue -
appears to be failing to fulfill it's role.
In these upsidedown times, is anything true?

The image of a ward on the TV screen,
so very heart-rending and tragic a scene,
profoundly touches my heart until
at this hateful virus in angst I scream.

Antiseptic's aroma fills the air -
though none is here -  I stumble to a chair
before I faint, overcome by the horror
of so much death and emotion laid bare.

Though these poor Souls are not my kin,
I feel all their anguish deep within
and mourn their passing, every one.
How I wish we could soon this battle win.

So I place all my faith in a prophecy made
by our Ancestors back in a darker Age:
that, when under threat, Arthur will return
to quash the invader with his trusted knights' aid.

Oh could it be truth? Or just wishful thought?
Well I happen to believe what in youth I was taught.
It's worth a try - with so many lives lost,
our victory's already been too dearly bought.

King Arthur

  1. It is sad to see the pandemic victim chart continue to grow in almost all countries ... , i don't know when it will be finished.
May we all always be healthy, my friend YGRaine.

The picture of Arthur is beautiful.

    1. Indeed it is so sad, really gets inside your head if you dwell on it too long, doesn't it!😒
I guess all we can do is stay strong and help each other in any way we can...
Thank you so much for your friendship and support...it truly means so much to me.😊😊
So happy you like the painting!

      Take care and stay safe.

      A Hug.

  2. The powerlessness of wishing this pandemic away.
The void where we try to hide praying that this horrible disease will not find us. The childish desire to hide under the bed until the danger passes...I welcome King Arthur and the knights of the round table to save and protect us.

Beautiful and excellently written my dear and lovely soul sister.

Is that your painting of King Arthur? I Know that you have the talent for it to be.

Lots of Love and Big Hugs ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

    1. Dearest Soul Sister...oh WOW...your kind words have truly touched my heart!
I guess there is a strange kind of comfort in the fact that, globally, we are all experiencing identical fears and anxieties. We dread going outside, and turn to Ancestral Archetypes to place out faith and hope in!
But, oh how I wish I were sitting with you now and enjoying a mug of coffee ☕☕ How wonderful that would be!!😊😊
Yes, I painted the watercolour last September.

Take care and stay safe, dearest Jan...you are so very special to me!πŸ’–

Here's hoping with all my heart that the vaccine will eventually eradicate this lethal foe forever...although I have to admit to harbouring serious doubts...πŸ˜•

    1. Indeed...we are all affected by this dreadful pandemic in some way. If something positive is to eventually come from this shared experience...then I hope it will be for all of humanity to unite together in mutual respect and understanding, and to learn to value life!
Well, I guess we can live in hope!
      Many thanks.😊😊

  6. Thank you, this is so well written.
These times are not easy and so many have lost dear ones.

I am hopeful there may be light at the end of the tunnel and later this year we will return to a more normal way of life, although I am still not too sure what 'normal' will be.

    All the best Jan

    1. Oh thank you, Jan...so much!😊😊
Indeed it does make you wonder exactly what the new "normal" will look like, doesn't it?!
Still, the most important thing is to stop, or at the very least slow this horrendous death rate.

      Have a great afternoon!

  7. My sweet Ygraine,
Our lives went into an epilogue, but not in the end. We will struggle to recover our blank page and start rewriting our history, away from this malignant virus.
May health professionals, along with science and us from information agencies, be the front line to permanently sweep this virus out of the world.
Many kisses and continue taking care of your health, my dear friend.

    1. And what an amazing job all of you in the front line are doing...you are our true Heroes!
I do think, though, that you journalists are the unsung Heroes. You risk your lives to bring truth to us...while we are tucked up in our homes, away from danger...and I truly can't thank you enough.
But please PLEASE take care, my amazing friend...and stay safe.
      Many Kisses xxx

  14. Yes, I also feel so sad during this pandemic. see victims falling due to this one virus.
Now all humans who are still alive have only one type of enemy, namely the covid 19 virus. Until when will this pandemic end? No one knows.
It all depends on the destiny of human life. But we must try to fight the virus in this fierce battle. May good luck be on our side. Never stop praying. Take care of yourself there. Stay healthy and stay safe there good friend Ygraine ..
    Have a wonderful week.
    A friendly hug.

Who knows, maybe it will even prove to be a turning point globally...and there may be less wars because people value life more! Well, we can live in hope, I guess!!

  21. Will King Arthur come to save us in the form of a vaccine?
I think that this virus will remain forever like the flu virus and so vaccines will have to be adapted at least annually according to the virus's mutations. So just one king will not be enough, many armies will be needed.
Your excellent poem is a cry of despair, which is identical to that of many people who no longer know what to do to survive in the face of another pandemic, the economic one.
Have a nice weekend, dear Ygraine. Stay safe.

  25. It is sad to see so many deaths and so much sickness around the world :( We are very lucky here people are doing the right thing as much as they can and we are relatively safe - I hope that we get the virus under control in other parts of the world too!

Hope that you had a nice weekend :) It was a bit hot and humid here but we still managed to get out to the park :)
